Challenges and limitations of artificial intelligence

Assuming that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an innovative tool in the service of humanity, we question the trust we can place in it. Although AI is already permeating several aspects of our daily lives, a divisive debate emerges between catastrophic and optimistic narratives.

1. Exponential Evolution:
AI shows exponential evolution compared to the human linear trend, promising broad and rapid growth in the coming years. Gabriella Pravettoni, a psychologist and professor at the University of Milan, stresses the natural human resistance to change and recalls the historical phenomenon of Ludism in the 18th century, when new technologies were destroyed for fear of replacing human labor.

2. Positive Impacts:.
AI revolutionizes medicine, introducing electronic medical records with the potential to provide personalized care. Diseases, influenced by genetic and hereditary factors, can be addressed more effectively through rapid processing of large amounts of data. A paradigm shift is evidenced with the disappearance of some work, but the opening of new, unexplored perspectives.

3. Wellness and Personalized Medicine:.
AI offers solutions in the medical field, enabling online consultations for chronic diseases and improving patients’ daily routines. Psychology benefits from therapeutic chatbots, virtual worlds, and online listening groups to address problems such as loneliness. AI can simulate the touch of a caress or hug, facilitating those who experience communication difficulties on sensitive issues.

4. Social Support and Limitations:
AI emerges as a support in societies dealing with loneliness, offering chatbots, virtual friends, and sensors that simulate affectionate gestures. However, the need to weigh the use of AI emerges, as its interaction can intensify social isolation. Confrontation with a machine can overcome some barriers of shyness or shame, but it is crucial to maintain content moderation and safety measures.

5. Coexistence between Online and Offline:.
The relationship between online and offline components raises crucial questions. While AI can provide support and monitor stress and anxiety, human empathy and emotional understanding require direct contact. Implementation of moderation measures is essential to balance the use of AI to serve human reasoning.

Medical research aims to extend life, but the focus must be on quality of life. AI, if used consciously, can extend life by improving well-being in a dignified manner. Education in the use of AI is crucial for proper technological evolution, aware of the risks and limitations. AI will become a valuable ally, especially in addressing situations of deprivation and loneliness, helping to make care and support accessible to those in need.
